u11 Romande Cup 2020 - 19th-20th Sept 2020

20th Sept 2020

A combined team of Gingins CC and Geneva Youth Cricket Club (GRYCC) put up a sterling display to proudly lift the u11 Romande Cup.

Up against the Basel Dragons and the Zurich Crickets at the beautiful Centre Sportif Bout-du-Monde in Geneva, the team left it to the last wicket pair in the final game to win a nail biter and lift the trophy.

Day 1
In game 1 the team went down to a superior Zurich by 5 wickets despite Anhad Sheikh's 19*(25) and Aaditya Batla's 15*(25) and 1-6 (2).
GCC-GRYCC - 102-6(20), ZCC - 103-3(14.1).

In game 2, the team put on an outstanding batting display, scoring 162(20) with Aaditya 25*(22) and Kai Pattison 17*(10) dominating the Basel bowlers. Aaditya continued to bowl superbly with 2-3(1) before the only girl on any of the teams, Ananya Srinivasan demolished the Basel middle order with 4 wickets in one over including a hatrick to finish with 4-2(1). The team was excellent in the field with Anhad and Samanyu taking great catches.
GCC-GRYCC - 162-4(20), BDCC - 43-8(9.0).

Day 2

The highlight of the tournament came in the morning of Day 2. Zurich u11's had been proudly unbeaten for 2 years, until today. Reuben Lucio, 25(35) got the team off to a great start but the rest of the batting could not capitalise and the team ended on 108. Aaditya came to the party again with the ball, running through the Zurich batting with 3-7(3). The rest of the bowlers were very economical and Zurich reached the last over needing 17 to win. In a thrilling finish, they only managed 16, with Kai putting his body on the line to stop a certain winning boundary. The team celebrated wildly and rightly so, they were back in with a chance to win the tournament.
GCC-GRYCC - 108-5(20), ZCC - 107-5(20).

The team was quickly brought down to earth, and ended up just about crossing the line in a must win match. Basel were restricted to 56, what seemed an easily gettable score. The batting line up was overconfident and perished to bad shots. Yet again, it was Aaditya who kept his head refusing to give away his wicket. It went down to the last pair before the winning runs were scored, capping a great run in the tournament.
BDCC - 56-8(17.5), GCC-GRYCC - 57-7(14.4) .
